BiographyMy name is Alistair J Parker, I live in Poulton le Fylde a small town 5 miles inland from the seaside resort of Blackpool. I developed my first photograph when I was 13 years old in the school darkroom. I used my fathers Agfa Isolette roll film camera until I bought my first camera when I was 15, a Hunter 35 bought through an advert in Amateur Photographer on finance. This was followed by a Fujica V2 a fantastic rangefinder camera with a f1.8 45mm lens. I shot mainly mountaineering photographs on Kodachrome 25. I still have most of the slides and they are as good now as the day they where shot. More than can be said for the Agfa CT18 trannies many of which have faded badly, but only some which suggests that Agfa processing was a bit slap dash. I was an Olympus user until I took up wedding photography. For that I used a Canon EOS 620 and 650, autofocus was an essential requirement for my style of wedding photography. I returned to serious photography about 15 years ago after participating in a series of City and Guilds photography courses. The outcome of this very enjoyable experience was a Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society (LRPS). At that point I entered my first photographic exhibition, the prize for which was membership of the local photographic society. I soon became involved in competition photography at local and national level winning a number of distinctions. When I moved 4 years ago there was nowhere for my darkroom which curbed my photography. I started messing with digital imaging but was very frustrated with the results. My interest had been in heavily post processed monochrome work in the darkroom. Very much a serendipitous artisan experience. Digital imaging was mundane by comparison. I had started down the digital route with my trusty Minolta Dimage Xt, well, at least I could slip it in my shirt pocket. However, last Christmas 2005 Santa Clause brought me a Canon 20D, so I decided to get my act together and get stuck into taking photographs and improving my knowledge of Photoshop. This photoblog was started to provide a stimulus to take photographs and practice my Photoshop skills. It is my intention to post am image every day, all being well. Why Digiphotology? I chose the name Photology for my main website because it described, at least in part, my photographic philosophy of endeavouring to capture the nature and phenomena of light. The camera often captures images which can not be seen in any other way, for example the movement of water, the effect of wind on grass or leaves. Camera lenses may soften or distort an image. It is this visual phenomena that I try to capture and use creatively in some of my images. Digiphotology is a corruption which I feel is appropriate for a site which is now entirely digital in conception. Photology: Pho*tol"o*gy\, n. The doctrine or
science of light, explaining its nature and phenomena; optics. Definition:
